Obtaining Disability Resources
To obtain accommodations and support services, you must verify that you have a disability and state its effect as it applies to university level study. Students are required to submit current and comprehensive documentation to Classroom Services. All documentation must be from a qualified professional, and must meet the eligibility criteria determined by the university. Eligibility for disability-related services is determined in collaboration with the Executive Office at the university.
All accommodations are intended to create equal access; please note that academic standards will not be compromised for any student at the Academy of Art University.
You are required to submit current and comprehensive
documentation to the office of Classroom Services. Please note that
all documentation must be from a qualified medical, health, learning disability,
or psychological professional, and must meet the Eligibility Criteria determined
by the University.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Review the Eligibility Criteria Document for your disability and share
the information with your physician or diagnosing professional.
Eligibility Criteria Documents (PDF)
» ADD/ADHD
» Mobility and Medical Disabilities
» Hearing Disabilities
» Psychological Disabilities
» Learning Disabilities
» Visual Disabilities
- Make sure that you communicate your anticipated needs to your diagnosing
professional. The documentation you acquire from this professional
should outline recommendations for specific services in a University setting,
as well as any academic limitations resulting from your disability or disabilities. Use
the Eligibility Criteria document to determine these needs.
- Classroom Services will review your documentation as soon as it is received,
and will contact you within ten business days. Additional documentation
may be required.
- After your documentation is complete, you must make an appointment with
Classroom Services to receive your Accommodation Letter and to activate disability-related
services. These services must be reactivated every semester.
There are also a number of services available to students whether
or not they have a disability, such as:
- Access to the Writing Lab twice a week to meet individually with a teacher
for written projects.
- Access to individual Academic Coaching for
help with time management, organization, goal setting, and study skills.
- Access to ARC Tutoring for students who need additional help
with a particular class. The ARC Tutoring teachers can address
questions and help improve skills or work on specific class assignments.
Confidentiality
Classroom Services promotes open communication as the key to success, and
collaborates with faculty, staff and students to create an optimal learning
environment. Classroom Services understands that disability-related information
is confidential, and will only be released with the student’s written
permission.
Please contact Classroom Services with any questions you may have, or to schedule
an appointment. We look forward to working with you!
